Trust and business

Trust is an important part of running a successful business. If your company looks like it isn’t as trustworthy as a competitor, you will lose out and they will profit from it. So how can you go about increasing your level of trust in the marketplace without spending a fortune to do it?

Everyone knows that when a customer is unhappy, they will make much more noise than a happy customer would. This mean the most important thing is to keep your customers happy by offering to solve any issues they have quickly and efficiently. Customers do not like it when they are asked to do things simply because an error was committed by someone else.

Another key aspect is the online marketplace – bad news travel quickly here and so you have to be extra vigilant that you aren’t garnering a bad reputation for yourself. Review sites are important places to check, along with ratings on Google and other big sites in your field. If your company gets a bad rep somewhere, don’t go in all guns blazing to try and rectify it – most of the time it makes things worse if you act overly defensive in order to cover yourself. Try contacting the individual in question who is causing the fuss and see how you can help them. In a decent percentage of cases where this happens the customer themselves will end up painting you in a better light. The bonus of this approach is that you are seen to be pro-active in helping customers solve their problem. No-one expects any company to be flawless, but when they act as if the issue is unimportant or that one customer doesn’t matter, people will become angry.

Finally, a good way to be successful in certain industries is to try and become a source of information to your customers. Whether this is online or in the ‘real world’, you will benefit by having a reputation as people who are knowledgeable about their sector or industry.
